The Benaïm string quartet residency at the Melun Val de Seine regional community

img_8901The Benaïm string quartet, entering it’s 9th year of existence, is starting it’s residency at the Melun Val de Seine regional community- MVSC (Communauté d’Agglomération Melun Val de Seine) near Paris, France.

The quartet will be at the heart of a new instrumental group, including- other than the quartet- invited  top soloists, wind and double- bass players, from France’s international orchestras (Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France),  which will perform in various venues on the MVSCcamerata

This new formation- the Camerata Melun Val de Seine- will be headed by the conducteur and artistique director of the Camerata, Jean- Michel Despin. The Camerata will also collaborates with lyrique and theater artists and will be offering a wide variety of repertoire.

For it’s first musical season at the MVSC, the Camerata will perform 3 different programs in 9 concerts, each program following a theme- Music from the East with Prokofiev “Peter and the wolf” (with Marie- Christine Barrault as the narrator), Schostacovitch’s 8th string quartet and the Ligeti for wind quintet, an Italien program (The famous Stabat Matter by Boccherini) and a French music program ( Ibert, Satie, Poulenc…).

This is a new concert concept, as the Benaïm quartet opens each program with a quartet from its repertoire, and then joins the wind and double- bass musicians to form the Camerata. A musicologist will also take part in commenting the pieces that will be played, and thus giving reference points and enabling the public to have a learned listening experience.

The quartet will also have an educational mission; it’s members will coach on a regular bases the musicians of the Melun Val de Seine youth symphony orchestra, composed of young professionals and high level amateurs, advising them during the rehearsals and taking part in the orchestra’s concert season, side by side with the young musicians.
